In the NT-NSC Program, we engage students in beyond-the-class experiences made possible through several mechanisms, including opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students.

Undergraduates    

Research Experiences for Undergraduates at UNT

As part of NT-NSC, we provide opportunities for selected undergraduate students to conduct on-site research on topics aligned with the research foci of NT-NSC.  Priority for selection will be given to students who are enrolled in the two new courses developed under this program. The selected students conduct research in additive manufacturing, sensor development, flexible electronics, RF electronics and communications, and utilize facilities in PI Kaul’s and Co-PI Mahbub’s laboratories. These experiences are designed to help foster more interest for students toward research and advanced degrees in the STEM disciplines.

Research Experiences for Undergraduates at Naval Facilities

Engineering undergraduate students enrolled in the two courses are provided information on the application process for internships at our partner Naval facilities for an 8-week duration over the summer. The Naval Research Enterprise Internship Program (NRIEP) is administered by the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE).

Graduate Students for research towards advanced degrees

The graduate students involved in this program not only assist in developing hands-on modules for new experiential learning courses as part of this program, but are also actively involved in research.  The research foci are in additive manufacturing techniques, development of sensors, flexible electronics, low-power and rf electronics.  The students publish their work in peer-reviewed venues and at national meetings through the engagement of graduate students involved in this program.
